Caries Fighters From Milk?

August 9th, 2008

That’s what it looks like if research by four of Ireland’s top dairies is successful. A €20 million funding will mean that this partnership will be looking at how milk extracts can be beneficial in the fight against tooth decay. This could mean that all things dairy – including infant feeds could be enhanced with these products in order to maintain great health for your teeth.

This is being done by making the larger milk proteins into smaller ones or peptides which will have properties to fight bacteria. Dental caries has been known to lead to more serious problems like stomach upsets and even heart and lung infections so prevention could mean your general health could be much better. This State-funded project is sure to ensure some innovative products for the health-conscious consumer.
