Dairy And Weight Loss Diets

February 22nd, 2009

A study done in the Boston University School of Medicine, Massachusetts states that three to four servings of dairy in a teenager’s day does not make the child put on weight – on the contrary, it makes for weight loss. Now this is assuming that the rest of the teen’s diet is healthy. Within a balanced diet, dairy helped play a part in managing weight.

In 1984, there was a study done that seemed to link calcium intake with lower weight. This new study links adequate dairy servings with lowered body fat in girls. Boys in the study had lower anthropometry levels. Can one then assume that dairy intake could lower BMI levels? It is a bit too early to assume that as many other factors like race, habits, other food eaten could all play a part.
