Fonterra’s Foray Into The US

Fonterra has opened its US operations – it comprises a corporate office as well as a lab. This New Zealand giant has spread its wings into North America from where it will target both the US as well as the Canadian markets. The operation is a joint venture with Dairy Farmers of America, the huge co-operative of farmers.

The US market is poised for growth in the yogurt area – especially in health and nutrition. So one can expect a lot of growth by way of probiotic activity in fermented milk as well as in cheese.

The opportunities for this Kiwi Dairy giant is massive considering that even a 2% growth in cheese would mean five times of what the New Zealand cheese market would be if it used all the milk it produced.
