Raw Milk And Niche Products
New Zealand’s Federated Farmers Dairy Section is ecstatic. The country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has released a review which will ensure that there will be enough of raw milk available for certain niche products. This includes ice-cream, chocolate and cheese. The Chairman of the federation announced that there would be 600 million liters set aside by Fonterra for auction with a base price being the one that Fonterra pays the farmers.
Considering that the regulations that are prevalent today were done seven years ago when there were major changes in the structuring of the dairy industry, this move is really welcome. Frank Brenmuhl, the federation’s Chairman says that a new day is dawning for the companies who want raw milk and for the farmers who have concerns over the present regulated structure.
